Knitting pattern for a Baby Sweater and Matching hat that uses a 4ply fingering weight merino or wool yarn such as New Zealand Merino DK.
There are two neck options - Crew or Boat.
6 sizes for babies from newborn to approximately 3-4 years.
Knitted in a stocking stitch pattern with moss stitch edges. Made in pieces from bottom up and seamed at sides and sleeves, this design is suitable for beginner knitters.
Sized to fit age, approximately - to fit chest (cm):
Newborn - 36cm
3 months - 41cm
6-9 months - 46cm
12-18 months - 51cm
2-3 years - 56cm
3-4 years - 61cm
Gauge: 22 sts and 30 rows over stocking stitch using 4mm needles.
Approx. total yardage for sweater and hat: 2 ( 3, 4, 4, 5, 6) balls of 8ply DK wool yarn (based on 138 metres per 50g ball) or equivalent baby yarn.
Needles sizes: 4mm, 3.75mm and 3.25mm straight knitting needles.
Also needs: Tapestry wool needle for sewing up, stitch holders and markers.
