Piper Vest and Hat 8ply Knitting Pattern

Baby Cakes 8ply knitting pattern from lisafdesign.

Piper is a textured vest, knitted in one piece with ribbed hem and garter stitch armhole edges. Paired up with a matching hat, and topped off with a small pompom, this baby is ready to go!

Like many of Lisa's patterns, the hat has two construction options to knit flat on straight needles or in the round on double pointed needles (DPNs).

Keep the look classic by choosing pure NZ wools in undyed natural shades such as Wild Earth Yarns Naturals 8ply (shown in Cream).

Five sizes for Vest in ages: newborn-3 (3-6, 6-9, 9-12, 12-18) months
Four sizes for Hat in ages: newborn-3 (3-6, 6-9, 9-18) months 

Materials:
Yarn: 3 (3, 4, 4, 5) balls of Wild Earth Yarns Naturals 8ply Wool (based on 104 metres per 50 gram ball) or approx. total of 312 (312, 416, 416, 520) metres of equivalent 8ply wool yarn.

Needles: 4mm and 3.25mm straight needles and/or DPNs in both sizes.
Notions: small faux fur pom pom and 1 medium button

Gauge: 22 sts and 30 rows to 10cm square over stocking stitch knitted on 4mm needles. Correct tension is Essential. Be sure to check your tension matches this pattern's stated gauge to ensure it will fit and you have the correct amount of yarn.  If your swatch has less stitches to the 10cm, your tension is too loose so use smaller needles.  If your swatch has more stitches to the 10cm, your tension is too firm so use larger needles.
