It's been around for a few years now but isn't the Penguono kimono jacket such a joyous and free spirited piece of knitted craft work?
So, go gather a colorful array of stash and scrap yarns and knit a versatile statement piece! Begin with a seed stitch rectangle followed by a series of welts on the back. The sides and fronts are knit sideways in garter stitch with simple v-neck shaping. Then, work two rectangles for the shoulders and tapered seed stitch sleeves. Garter stitch short rows form the collar and another garter stitch rectangle forms the bottom band, all outlined in I-cord. Upon completion, you have a fun short sleeved jacket, but flip it upside down and it becomes a long dramatic and shapely coat. The improvisational stripes and color blocks provide endless entertainment and you can add fringe to the back for extra drama.
