Learn some skills so you feel more confident making tweaks and changes to patterns, and create knit garments that fit YOU!
We’ll cover what yarns to use, clues to look for when starting a pattern, gauge and swatching and we’ll take our measurements and figure out how to find our size in a pattern. Learn how to make simple changes so our sweaters and cardigans fit us and get to grips with making changes to width and length.
We’ll also have a bash at making changes to a garment pattern to make it fit you better. Bring along a pattern, or a garment that you’ve knitted and don’t feel thrilled with (or both), so we can talk about how to tweak things to make them work for you.
Before class you’ll need to find some yarn and knit a gauge swatch in stocking-stitch. DK will be faster (on 4mm needles), but feel free to use a 4ply/ fingering (with a 3.5mm needle). Ideally you’ll knit your swatch in the round but if you’re not ready to try that, just do a regular flat swatch, about 15cm x 15cm.
When you’re done, soak and lay your swatch out to dry naturally. It might pay to knit your swatch a few days before the class so you’ve got time to block it and get it dry. (If you run out of time, steam it with an iron instead. It’s not quite as good but it’ll do the trick).
Confused about swatching? Don’t fret - we’ll talk about swatching in the class, but in the meantime, have a read of this article from Libby's mini-mag all about swatching.
NOTE: If you’re a swatching pro and have some swatches lying around, feel free to bring one of them ;)
So, what will you need to bring to the class?
- your blocked swatch (approx 15cm x 15cm) (preferably in the round)
- newish tape measure (they stretch!);
- calculator (your phone will probably have one on it);
- - oh, and wear a good bra that you like the fit of, with a light layer on top.
Cancellation Policy: All Classes are non-refundable. If you cannot make the class, you may be able to transfer your spot to another person. All registrations are final.
