This knitting pattern is for a charming set of hat and booties for newborn babies that is designed in a fingering/ 4ply weight yarn in two contrasting colour options.
It requires intermediate knitting skills as the hat is knitted in the round (circular knitting) on double pointed needles (but of course you can use a small 30cm long circular needle instead for all but the crown of the hat). The booties are made in flat pieces and seamed.
One size only: newborn to 3 months.
To fit head (approx): 35 -40cm
To fit foot (approx): 7-8cm
Yarn required( approx.) between 170 metres for the plain set or if making the striped version choose 3 contrasting colours each with approximately 170 metres per ball. You'll have a bit of these left over so consider using up small bits of leftover 4ply wool to clear up your stash!
Please note that any alterations to the pattern may require extra yarn than stated. All measurements are approximate.
Gauge/Tension: 28sts and 36 rows to 10cm square of stocking stitch using 3.25mm needle.
Needles & Notions: 3.25mm and 3.5mm circular or double pointed needles for the hat - straight needles in same sizes for the booties (or as needed to make the gauge), yarn needle to sew seam on booties.
